7 Steps to Raising Your FICO Score
1. Pull Your Credit Reports
Get your free reports at AnnualCreditReport.com from all 3 bureaus. Look for EVERY error, no matter how small. One inaccurate digit = grounds for removal!
2. Dispute All Errors Immediately
Use FCRA grounds: Inaccurate, Incomplete, Duplicate, Expired, Not Mine. Send CERTIFIED MAIL. Start with Round I letters. Their clock starts ticking.
3. Pay Down Credit Card Balances
Keep utilization BELOW 30% of your limit. Below 10% is even better. This alone can jump your score 40-60 points!
4. Add Positive Trade Lines
Get a secured credit card. Become an authorized user on someone's good account. Have your rent reported. These add positive data!
5. Never Miss A Payment
Payment history = 35% of your FICO score. One 30-day late can drop your score 60-110 points. Set auto-pay NOW!
6. Don't Open Too Many New Accounts
Every hard inquiry drops your score 3-5 points. Space out applications by 6+ months. Don't go dealer to dealer getting pulled!
7. Be Patient & Persistent
Credit restoration is 4-7 months of consistent effort. Don't give up. "Deleted, Deleted, Deleted" notifications WILL come. I promise you that!
